Pelham roundings are strong, supple English leather roundings most commonly used with pelham or continental bits. Most horse bits that are normally used with two reins can be used with a bit rounding to enable the rider to use just one rein, but effect two parts of the bit at once. This can be particularly useful when jumping, when double reins can be a hindrance. Useful for children, who may have not yet become skilled enough to handle two reins with ease. However they will diminishes the rider's ability to apply the curb and snaffle functions of the pelham independently and discriminately.
